XML POS is the IFC8 protocol for point-of-sale systems. When a cashier selects “charge to room”, the POS queries OPERA for in-house guests, submits the posting and receives an immediate accept or reject.

Typical flow

  1. Inquiry — the cashier enters a room number (or name); OPERA returns in-house guests and whether posting is allowed.
  2. Posting — the POS sends room, guest/reservation, revenue centre, check number, amounts and subtotals.
  3. Answer — OPERA accepts or rejects with a reason; the POS prints the voucher or asks for another payment.
  4. Reconciliation — totals by revenue centre and transaction code are matched with OPERA night audit reports.
